METAL DICTATORS - concert review

10th May was an unusually hot day, with the temperature soaring beyond 41 degrees. But that surely did not stop the 400+ metalheads/rock lovers to gather at a rather small venue - Jogesh Mime Academy in Kalighat. Metalheads and rock lovers came with a lot of expectations and they were definitely not disappointed. A crowd wearing black tees sporting their favourite metal bands were surely a sight to behold. The message was clear...they were ready to witness the true dictators of metal! This was also the first time that an underground concert in Kolkata had a ticket system. Moreover, it was not an irony that a metal concert happened in a mime academy. It was a deliberate irony and was symbolic to a number of factors.

The show kicked off with an amazing performance by the band Jack Rabbit - an alternative band with progressive influences. They surely got the crowd 'in the mood'!

Next to perform was the brutal death metal act - Chronic Xorn. They stuck to their original compositions and got all the metal heads headbanging to their brutally heavy sound - just the element needed to charge up the environment. As usual, they left everyone wanting for more.

Then was Flashflood - a thrash metal band. They did a mixture of originals and covers which included Sepultura and Soulfly. They got the crowd go beserk! The day was unbearably hot but neither the bands nor the audience cared! They just did what they wanted to do - bring the place down...it was an absolute mayhem! Naktala Metal Pally started writing history again!

Crystal and the witches were the next one to take stage. A band both popular and respected in the metal circuit surely did justice to their fame. Starting off with Master of puppets, they really kicked some serious ass. They original's were equally good but a special mention goes to their last number - cover of the Sepultura song 'Territory' featuring Flashflood and a member of Noyze Akademi. An amazing performance.

Next one....Moshpit - one of the members of the NMP family! They never let down the momentum building up since the start of the show. They also did a brilliant cover of the song 'Pure Hatred' by Chimaira and was joined by Rishi of Noyze Akademi for the song. With originals like 'Breaking Through' , they took the entire thing a step ahead! Really a brilliant performance for an underground metal gig.

Then some guys took stage who call themselves ATMAHATYA - the first death metal band of the city. They are also one of the core members of the NMP family. Heavy, brutal, fast and a feeling that crushes you to death! They performed their originals which were freshly and specially composed for this gig! They also did their own version of 'Roots Bloody Roots' by the great Sepultura. In short, ATMAHATYA let loose the demons of hell! The crowd went wilder and crazier!

The final act - AMAVASYA...one of the main bands of NMP. The band featured two members from the NMP mother band NITRIC DREAMS - Tushar on drums and Johhny on bass. Steve showed one and all that he still has it inside him even after a long gap. The originals like 'Shiray Shiray' and 'Paap' really put and apt end to the spectacular event.

In all, the NMP - METAL DICTATORS was a major success - leaving out some minor sound issues and the heat .... the show really exploded!

Me like everyone present that day, look forward to the next edition of NMP!!!
